Stress and
Hypertension
In contemporary times there are various
diseases, dysfunctions, conditions etc. and one of the
most common conditions known is Hypertension. Hypertension
of high blood pressure is a condition that affects millions
of people worldwide, and there are several reasons for
its occurrence.
It is first of all thought hypertension
is the direct result of stress. In contemporary times
since life is lived at a faster pace, there is a greater
load on individuals. More work is now done with the
mind than with the body, and hence the burden that one’s
body would have shared years ago is now taken on by
the mind. This refers to the digitalization of many
processes that were first managed manually. There is
indeed a great shift towards offices rather than factories;
factories and other large work sites that had many people
working with their hands rather than their minds has
now diminished, and with the passage of time things
have evolved into smaller and more compact work stations.
People today operate things sitting
at their desks with computers in front of them. So here
it can be seen that in addition to having more stress
because of working hours on end using one’s mind
and coping with problems that come up frequently, by
one sitting for long hours the body no longer receives
the activity it should. This means that one’s
blood pressure is most likely to be affected because
of this. As one sits for long hours and does not have
the chance to burn away the natural build up of cholesterol,
it deposits itself on the inner walls of arteries at
any point it can in the body. Since the heart has smaller
blood vessels, it is most likely that these would get
blocked in quick time. This is because of the fact that
deposits of cholesterol do not have all that much space
here. Once the small arteries of the heart get blocked,
it becomes difficult for the heart to receive its supply
of Oxygen, and eventually it loses the ability to function
properly and may break down in the form of a heart attack.
Worsening this condition is the fact
that stress is a major problem today. This is because
stress is responsible for further closing of the small
arteries in the heart. With cholesterol building up
in the already tiny vessels (pulmonary arteries and
arterioles) stress makes things worse. It is then no
wonder that so many people who lead physically stagnant
lives tend to suffer with hypertension.
A way out of stress and hypertension
includes learning to cope with stress. This means taking
part in particular medically advised programs or generally
learning how to deal with stress and put aside what
bothers one the most. In addition to this one may have
to re-adjust his or her priorities as far as work is
concerned. This means that She would have to realize
whether or not the stress
they face at work is too much too handle.
Another very important thing to remember
is that exercise too is a main source of relief. In
other words, there are two things to gain from exercise.
This includes the physical activity that burns excess
cholesterol away and also articulates the important
parts of the body, and also the entertainment that comes
along with playing any kind of sport for the sake of
exercise. This helps to take one’s mind of office-like
worries and improve his or health.
