Prostate
When men tend to grow older their
prostate may become a source of a problem. Prostate
is a gland of the male reproductive system that produces
some of the fluids which semen is made up of , which
help it transports the sperm during a male orgasm. There
are basically three types of problems that are caused
by the prostate these are mentioned below:
- Inflammation (prostatits )
- Prostate enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia)
and
- Prostate Cancer.
The most common disease in the average
American male is Prostate Cancer. In a survey conducted
by the American Cancer Society, men aged 45 and older,
African-American male should undergo a test to rule
out the possibility of Prostate Cancer as these are
most common in men the above mentioned categories.
The prostate is located near the balder
and just above the rectum, the prostate is the average
size and shape of a chestnut. This gland is made up
of 305 muscular tissue and the rest is made up of glandular
tissues (these are approximate values). This gland wraps
itself around the urethra which is the tube that carries
the urine from the bladder out through the tip of the
penis.
The cause of Prostate cancer is still
unknown, although many researchers have identified factors
that originate either by the environment, genetics and
family history. As mentioned above these cases are very
common or start at the age of 45. According to survey
reports they have shown that the death rate is more
than two times in African-American males than the Caucasian
men. Men who come under the above mentioned categories
should have a prostate-specific
antigen (PSA) blood test and digital rectal exam (DRE)
once every year. These tests are very important to men
as the cause is not known exactly and the occurrence
of this can occur at any time.
The are several treatment method but
these are not mentioned in any specific order as the
treatment process depends on several factors such as
age, the stage of the persons disease and the advice
of the physician. The treatment that are available are
mentioned below.
-
