Different types of headaches & how to cope with them

There are various types of pains that people have to put up with, and there are various reasons for the different types of pains one may have. Among the different types of pains that one may have, headaches are one type in which there are different kinds of headaches as well. Each type of headache is due to a different reason, and there different cures for each of them. Below is a list of different types of headaches, their causes and how one can cope with or cure them.

Tension Headaches:
The most common type of headache known is the ‘Tension Headache’ This type of headache affects many people, and is marked by a dull pain on both sides of the head. This type of headache may vary in intensity and is often very persistent. In case of the episodic form of this headache, it is said that episodes may last anywhere between 30 minutes up to a week. These types of headaches can develop into chronic headaches and can take place infrequently, and can vary in intensity all day long. Working regularly becomes problematic in such conditions and even the strongest of people can be affected. When these headaches are present for more than fifteen days in a month they are observed as chronic headaches. Emotional or physical stress (too much reading, incorrect posture, an argument, etc.) is known to be a cause, aside from one’s environment, such as discomforting and loud music.

How to Cope with a Tension Headache:
One could use analgesics like aspirin and paracetamol. If these do not solve the [problem then one may try a shower, use a warm compress for the forehead. Getting some sleep is another solution.

Sinus Headache:
This is another headache that can be quite discomforting. The condition is marked by pain above or below the eyes. It is painful to touch, and is usually caused by blocked sinuses, allergies, colds and flu-like symptoms. These headaches are likely to occur at anytime, and if they take place in the mornings of first half of the day, they are most likely to worsen as the day progresses. Bending over with this type of headache is also painful. Among the causes are sinus infections, as they become infected and inflamed.

How to Cope with a Sinus Headache:
It is recommended that one stay away from irritable environments. This would mean staying away from an environment that is how and dry as this is known to aggravate a person’s condition. Inhaling steam is also believed to be effective. In addition to this, one may take aspirin, but usually it is recommended that one should see a doctor who would prescribe particular antibiotics. Migraine (Vascular) Headache:
This form of headache is known to affect around one in every eight people, and normally people between the ages of 24 and 35 are affected. More women tend to suffer with their form of headache as well
The headache is marked by a severe pain on one side of the head. Along with this one usually experiences sensitivity to bright light or sound, and may feel nauseas, have cold hands, etc.
Emotional factors, stress, bright lighting and loud music are among the causal factors.

How to cope with a migraine headache:
It is recommended that one change certain aspects of his or her lifestyle. This helps a great deal in reducing the causal factors. In addition to the physical changes that one makes analgesics like aspirin and paracetamol are used. Also antihistamines and anti-emetics are used.

Temporal Arthritis:
This form of headache is a symptom of disease. It is described as a severe headache with a burning or throbbing sensation in the initial stage of the problem. These severities may disappear as the disease progresses. The condition is caused by inflammation of the arteries that supply blood to the head.

How to cope with a Temporal Arteritis:
Serious medical attention needs to be sought which involve blood tests in order to determine the course of action to solve the problem.

Cluster Headaches:
These headaches are known to mainly affect men. There are severe and usually develop behind one’s eyes. The reason why this headache has its name is because of the fact that it occurs in days that are grouped or clustered together.

How to cope with a cluster headache:
