Cholesterol

In contemporary times, there is much awareness regarding controlling one’s health through diet. It is now common knowledge that lower intakes of cholesterol are better for individuals because cholesterol is supposed to be one of the major causes of heart problems. This is true because of the fact that most of the foods that people consume today are rich in cholesterol. If one exercises regularly and sufficiently, one may burn of the consumed cholesterol and prevent health complications. However, for those who do not exercise adequately, it is far better for them to avoid consuming foods that can cause such problems, mainly heart disease.

In developed countries, it appears that cholesterol is one of the major health problems today. This is largely because of the fact that junk food has grown in popularity, and every one finds consuming these foods both convenient and tasty. Hence, it is rather difficult for people to avoid taking cholesterol rich foods. The fast pace at which people live today is one of the reasons for them adhering to consuming fast foods rich in cholesterol; they may not have enough time to cook full scale meals for themselves and hence, end up living on fast food. No matter what one’s life style may be, people are generally told to avoid “Fried, basted, braised, au gratin, crispy, escalloped, pan-fried, sautéed, stewed or stuffed foods” as they “are high in fat” (Tips for Eating Out, 2004).

The reason why cholesterol is considered so dangerous to individuals is because of the fact that it is a substance that can block vital arteries. This means that blood flow to important organs can be blocked easily, resulting in complications to mainly the human heart. Other organs can also be affected, and so, it is better to avoid cholesterol intake. If one has high cholesterol level, it is important to see a physician who would recommend appropriate medication in order to lower the chances of health complications as well as advise one against inappropriate food substances.
